The PPP were riding supreme in 1962 and by then most blacks had left the PPP.  The "apan jhat" screams made it obvious that to many the PPP had become an Indian party and that it had no place for blacks.  Even Eusi, who did not trust Burnham, and he left long before.

In fact even you seem to be attempting to construct a narrative that the PPP wasn't fundamentally hostile to blacks after 1957. I am sorry but this isnt a version that most blacks can accept.  It was after the 1957 elections that fulling alignment based on race occurred because of the "apan jhat" screams.

Cheddi was an opportunist who turned a blind eye to this because he knew that it would benefit the PPP, given the fact that Indians numerically dominated the rural constituencies.  And that there were more rural than urban.

The last election was blatantly about race.  It was a re run of 1957 except that Indians no longer enjoyed the demographic advantages that they enjoyed in the earlier era, so it didn't work.

When Burnham left the PPP he left with several Indians.  Burnham knew full well that he could not win an election based only on the black vote.

Note that in the "winner take all" system of that election and 1961 the demographics of Guyana guaranteed a PPP victory. Not only were Indians the largest group, but they were also the largest group in most of the seats.

The then PPP on February 13, 1955 DID NOT EXPEL Forbes Burnham.

At an irregular conference held at the Metropole Cinema, Burnham was instrumental to get one of his special supporter to make a motion to suspend the then current standing orders to hold elections of officers.

When this was achieved by Burnham, Cheddi Jagan and his supporters walked out of the meeting.

Burnham then continued with this irregular meeting with the elections of members to the executive of this new party.

At that time there were then two distinct political organisation ---

1 People's Progressive Party, Jaganites -- led by Cheddi Jagan.

2 People's Progressive Party, Burnhamites -- led by Forbes Burnham.

which then contested the elections in 1957 and the PPP-Jaganites won.

After the 1957 elections Forbes Burnham then renamed his party as the People's National Congress.

Go argue with Odeen Ishmael as I got this from his Guyana Story.  I don't think that you can argue that he isnt a hard core PPP supporter.

The main point though is that Burnham left with INDIANS and two of them became very senior within his version of the PPP.  So when the PPP screams that his departure led to the rise of racism which Burnham peddled THEY LIE.  It was the apan jhat of the 1957 election that led to this.

Go argue with Odeen Ishmael as I got this from his Guyana Story.  I don't think that you can argue that he isnt a hard core PPP supporter.

The main point though is that Burnham left with INDIANS and two of them became very senior within his version of the PPP.  So when the PPP screams that his departure led to the rise of racism which Burnham peddled THEY LIE.  It was the apan jhat of the 1957 election that led to this.

When Forbes Burnham caused the split of the then PPP in 1955, BOTH political groups had and continues to have members from all ethnic groups in Guyana.
