I just peeped in.  The silence is deafening. Still having a hard time navigating.

Hello Bhaiya…

yeah it is getting easier though..n i like the ‘Forum Status “ page ..much better !

i am trying to make some noise..hehehe

check out Bollywood forum.  I never heard abt this duo before but I saw them on youtube this morning.  They r so good!!  Bisram n Romena Deokinandan! ( I seem to have this name in my head ..Romena Ali . It rings a bell in my mind..ie she was probably a popular local singer back in the 70’s or 80’s with 1 of the orchestras…i remember 2 other young ladies, .Tagewattie Persaud i think..her bro was the leader of an orchestra (from Essequibo Coast?? This is  very vague in my mind).

Then there  was Bibi Suleman or Sulaiman. ..probably  in Ramanand orchestra??

I dont rem thenames of all the orchestras now..? Indian melody makers??

Anyway..this couple sound so good..take a listen

have a great day..n thnx for ‘peeping’ in

Vidyarthi Orchestra had some great singers. the leader Dianand Shamsundar is a relative and he died a few years ago in New York

I used to love the radio program on Sundays “ local Indian performers” at 130 pm .. fave were devendra pooran, mohan nandu, rocky persaud ( he imitated Rafi ) , jeewan chowti , n these girls n also Celia Samaroo who was our local Lata then. There was a younger guy from East Coast, not sure of his name?? Leonard?? He sang mostly Kishore songs.

Was Vidyarti from WCD or Berbice??

Ramanand ork. played for a wedding(double weding of 2 sisters..1 gotm arried on the Sat night as her barriat was from Berbice.  I rem the 2 young ladies who accompanied them..i was abt 9 yrs or 10 maybe becaise I wasnt in high sch then.  The band all night .  The family were RICH folks n they accommodated the entire orchestra.  I still rem 2 2 of the songs which the 2 girls sang .. Raat aur din diya jale…n mera raja mere lala n they sang so beautifully that theyhave been 2 of my fave songs since that day/night

Vidyarthi was from Enmore. Dianand sang like Mukesh, his sister Vadewattie and Helen Shaw sang like Lata. the orchestra leaders were Guyana's starboys, all the girls went nuts for them

FM

Vadewattie name is familiar.

I had my own baby transistor radio n didnt miss a single program .. so i knew the popular singers …even whn i went to the backdam, i relaxed in the hammock n listened … Sundays from 1-4 pm.

there was ‘East meets West in music” .. loved that too !!

good old days whn our sole entertainment was radio n cinema n of course local cricket ( all 4 of my bros played cricket n i joined them whn they played friendly in our backyard)
