The Medical outreach was held in collaboration with the Benschop Foundation.
Deskan Institute is a non-governmental organization which strives to assist organizations to strengthen their capacity, provide services and to enhance the work environment with the objective of expanding the delivery of health education and health promotion.
Although the team has been travelling to Guyana to render their assistance for the past several years, yesterday was the first time they visited the residents in that small community.
The team did mostly physical examinations on children and adults. They distributed medication they brought from their homeland, the United States of America. In some cases, patients were advised to visit the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to seek further attention.
According to one of the doctors, Joan Liverpool, her colleagues have observed a lot of persons suffering from High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, skin rashes  and diabetes among other illnesses.
She told Kaieteur News that in one instance a seven-year-old child appeared to be suffering from some form of heart complication. The parent of that child was advised to take her to the GPHC to do an EKG (electrocardiogram).
β€œThese patients are lacking medical care and education. We have seen patients with heart problems, uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. We come every year to help the Guyanese people and today (yesterday) we have come here to assist,” Dr. Liverpool said.
Head of the Benschop Foundation, Mark Benschop said that Dr. Liverpool contacted him and asked in what way she could assist the entity.
β€œRight away I told her about the people from the back of the Chinese Embassy and she agreed and I think we should have more persons coming on board to assist these people,” Benschop said.
