More than 100 Haitians arrive in Guyana

Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, Winston Felix.

More than 100 Haitians arrived aboard a chartered aircraft early Thursday morning, but Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Winston Felix said he is not worried.

“We did not  have any issues with their bona fides, we saw nothing wrong. To me everything appeared very normal” Felix told Demerara Waves Online News. He said they have been given one month’s stay in Guyana. He said they are free to travel to neighbouring Suriname if they so desire and have the required visa. “They didn’t come to Guyana ti stick in Guyana,” he added.

Felix, a former Police Commissioner, said there was nothing wrong with a large number of Haitians arriving here in the same way that Chinese and Cubans have been coming here in large numbers.

However, their arrival here is said to be raising eyebrows among immigration authorities in Guyana, well-placed sources said.

Officials have confirmed to Demerara Waves Online News on condition of anonymity that 154 Haitians landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at about 1:45  Thursday morning. A Fly Jamaica plane flew the passengers from Port-au-Prince to Guyana directly.

“They came as tourists. It’s the first time we are seeing it,” a well-placed source said. They were allowed entry and they all had travel documents. The source said “we are investigating it” , adding that the visitors gave a number of addresses.

Immigration officials could not confirm that 45 of the Haitians were shuttled across to neighbouring Suriname and another 45 are due to leave for that Dutch-speaking neighbour shortly.

The movement of Haitians to several Caribbean territories such as Turks and Caicos Islands and The Bahamas has proven to be troublesome because thousands of them have migrated legally and illegally and putting pressure on social and economic services.

Across in Suriname, authorities have introduced a visa requirement for Haitians because they have been flying there by air and moving on to French Guiana which shares a similar history and culture.

Haitians arrive in Guyana on Chartered Fly Jamaica Flight - Following Granger's Visit

I do not know that granger invited them but that large a group as visitors from poor haiti is a stretch. Guyana is not a cheap tourist spot even if you can avoid the potential pitfalls of robbery and conjobs.

In any event, Ravi Dev was sent to India to recruit indians and he preached the sermon of how guyana is a paradize of culturaly receptive people and a potential financial haven for any investor so I do not see anything wrong if the same speech is given to haitans.

This is not about affordability.  This is about population increase.   Many of them went to homes in Linden.  You are right, this was Burnham's idea.  And Chief's!!!!!!!!

I always held the position that Guyana need to take in some Haitians.

Also I was thinking we could have brought in like 5000 Syrian  refugees as well.

I believe we still can since there is a vast need an we should lobby for that. We could bring in bakers, farmers engineers, semstresses and tailors etc all that can add to our industry. We need motivators not the current stagnated pool of lazy people. These syrians can be a fountain head of new industry. I mean it.  We are very familiar with Syrians huskers and  they would feel welcome.

Chief like you want to be your brown behind to be a servant for white Syrians. Trinidad and Jamaican Syrians are some of the wealthiest people in those societies. Ansa Macal is a Syrian Trinidad company. In fact the Mekdeci and Viera families are of partial Syrian ancestry. Let them take care of their own people. Us browns got our own problems to worry about.

You have to be kidding. Jamaica is a land of warfare between the blacks and the "brownings".

Trinidad loves to spread its mythology of racial peace and then we see virtual gated communities in parts of the island with some expensive private schools that are almost all white. Not too long ago that dark skinned people (both black and Indian) were not allowed to enter certain night clubs. These clubs suddenly becoming "private".

As divided as Guyana is I have never heard of an instance of some one being barred entry on the basis of their skin color.

Jagdeo brought loads more Chinese than that to Guyana. And then they started to slowly take over Guyana.

That true the previous administration was all for China Chinaman. But China Chinaman is always 100 percent for Chinaman.  Africa is now slowly coming to realize this fact. The Pakis will get to know this in the future when China and Taiwan continue with their claims to Kashmir and will not settle for small  pieces of Kashmir land that the Pakis think that they will bribe the Chinaman with.

The Haitians arrived in Guyana as tourists, an immigration category. They were granted one month's stay in the country. Over 40 have moved on to Suriname with French Guiana as their possible destination. More are expected to follow them overland.

I won't put an alarming political spin. There's no way French-speaking Haitians will fit comfortably permanently in Guyanese society.

The Chinese immigrants have been using Guyana as a stepping stone to North America. Guyana is not a paradise to attract large numbers of immigrants who want to live and die there.

Black and coolies love to cause problems. They both jealous of others, in Guyana they did not like the Putagees....and then again they fight with each other.

CaribJ you full of nonsense Trinis a re Trinis and do want to hear the nonsense about Indo and Afro.

Guyanese have an age-old reputation of being friendly to foreigners. And, with a mammoth number of Guyanese who have migrated overseas for betterment, plus others on the waiting list, people in Guyana should be the last to harbor xenophobic thoughts and feelings.

I have no problem with Haitians arriving in Guyana as long as they enter legally.

Many of our relatives booked tickets to USA and Canada in order to flee the racist PNC dictatorship era under Burnham and Hoyte.

We must never forget the sacrifices of our relatives and be compassionate to those who wish to flee from their terrible situation.

Why were they flown by Charter on PNC airline, Fly Jamaica, when at the same time Venezuelans in Guyana face deportation?

I was not aware of the that fact that they were chartered into Guyana.

If so then this is a politically motivated decision and if Venezuelans are being deported then this government is indeed very, very racist.

FM

Granger is replacing every dead coolie with Haitians that will be eligible for residency or citizen to vote for PNC in 2020. Noting is done without reasons in Guyana under the PNC.

Excuse me, there. Don't be loose with words. [1]Fly Jamaica is not PNC airline. [2] The Venezuelans in dispute did not fly into CJIA and pass through Customs and Immigration. They crossed the border overland and were apprehended in Essequibo before facing court in GT.

A charter is no big thing where group travel is concerned. People get together, pool their money, and hire a plane or bus or boat at a cheaper rate than individual ticket buyers pay.

FM

There is no cause for hysteria, until Demerara Waves or other news media report that Haitians are applying for citizenship status in Guyana. Meanwhile, let us treat the tourists with our traditional hospitality.

Of course Fly Jamaica is owned by friends and family of the PNC honchos.  Who do you think was flying people From Brooklyn to vote in Guyana in 2015 FOR FREE?!!!    How do you think Harmon and company sneak out of Guyana unnoticed to run around the world in their escapades?

Granger went to Haiti and the Haitians got their visas.  Why wasn't the same done for the Venezuelans, many of whom have more education and work skills than the Haitians?  Several of them applied.

That is not tantamount to being a PNC airline. The New GPC is owned by a friend of the PPP. Does that make the New GPC a PPP pharmaceutical company?

FM

No matter how we look at it, there is political involvement in this.

I am now beginning to worry if this is part of a long term master plan to rig by issuing visas and eventually voters registration to these Haitians.

Let us wait and see is this trend continues before we draw any conclusion.

Venezuelans should not be deported, there has to be some humanitarian grounds to assist those who enter Guyana from hunger and social unrest. It is not like they are flooding Guyana and the government has a refugee crisis on their hands.

There is definitely an element of racism here by the PNC.

2012 CENSUS

There is no sinister plan to increase the African population,East Indian migration is balancing the two major races.

Some posters here are encouraging East Indians to migrate, due to their dislike of the the present government.

The chart above prove East Indians are migrating by the thousands, taken from the latest census 2012,applying the stats come 2020 their numbers will further decrease.

Django,

Please.

There appears to be a orchestrated plan by the PNC to rig. We will see at time goes by, I might be wrong but if walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is a duck.

Indos were the largest block of Guyanese who fled PNC racism and as such they became citizens of foreign countries and started to SPONSOR relatives and as such this process of Indo Guyanese population shrinking started and will continue.

Indos are family oriented and have been sponsoring and assisting relatives in leaving Guyana for better shores and better opportunities. You and brother Gil are an examples of Info Guyanese leaving for better opportunities.

This trend of Indos leaving will continue regardless if the PPP or PNC is in power. Indos will always be on the move for better opportunities. This trend started by our foreparents in their decision to leave India as indentured immigrants.

I cannot speak for Blacks and if the same pattern of sponsorship exists in their community. I suspect that it may not be the same as Indos.

Keep defending the PNC, it is your right to do so. Your plan to label Anil as a liar fell flat on your face as the Jackass Williams lied and is still supported by Granger.

Please think on a Sunday morning before you rush to defend the PNC.

As per your quote:

"Some posters here are encouraging East Indians to migrate, due to their dislike of the the present government."

My question for you:

Why don't you sell everything tomorrow and move back to the PNC paradise in Guyana, a government that you so love and blindly defend on a daily basis  ?

Look at the chart you will notice the migration of Afro Guyanese, their numbers are significantly less.

Since when facts presented it's considered to be defending.

Stick to facts presented no need to get personnel,I don't dictate to outsiders how to live their lives.
