Let the law take its course:

THE Muslim Community in Guyana has become the focus of many discussions, news reports and at times slander as a result of the allegations surrounding the Islamic Scholar. The Islamic position as it pertains to rape, paedophilia and homosexuality remains unambiguous.

There are no grey areas surrounding these issues and those involved/guilty of such acts are dealt with based on the Sharia- in an Islamic state.

So while the above remains true, no religion is free from being stained by the actions of some bad elements. A thief or rapist is just that, no religion condones evil. There isn’t anything like an Islamic thief or a Christian rapist. Both are evil regardless of their religious persuasion.

If the individual in question is found guilty by the court of law, the Muslim Community will stand in support of that verdict in a similar way if he is found to be innocent.
However, the protests by Red Thread is cause for concern, since they are of the view that perhaps further acts of such a nature could be carried out.

The issue now would be to juxtapose the other situations of similar circumstances that have been in the public domain; were there any protests at all at the Sharma case by Red Thread or was his case given as much prominence as the current one in question? The answer is no. There should be a principled position; our country no longer can do away with such double standards.

The CIOG and the other Muslim organisations will never condone or protect the perpetrators of those acts mentioned in the first paragraph. Therefore, the unwarranted, negative publicity need not be. Let the law take its course.
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
