I a happy that it is being restored and not taken down and a new building put in its place.
the Govt should start giving landmark status to many of the buildings in Guyana.
Since when the Central Govt responsible for GT. Is like blaming Obama for NY problems. Grow a bloody brain Chea Pet!!!
It is quite clear to some of us as to why these Projects are only NOW being done.

We know that you are a loser, but why are you boasting about it?

WHy call the man names? He only posting a story and his opinion....
Are you trying to tell us that the PPP government prevented City Council from repairing this market building?

I simply returned the Favor. It is how Uncle Nehru roll.
Doing substandard work on dilapidated buildings with low grade woods from some local sawmill does not reflect a vibrant economy. This was happening during the years of bread shortages and Burnhamism.
I noticed that only blackman working on the restoration , everything was held back during the PPP government, Green did that purposely , look today PNC a rule they are cleaning, the streets, cleaning the trenches, picking-up garbage, fixing old buildings, but look who get the contracts all Blackman. If you don't see that, well you BLIND.
Let's see how long they can keep it up for.
KP, BRB name the contractors.
Ksaz might be very happy. I remember spending time there when I live in Kitty for a while.
This is a much overdue project. I am happy that the architecture will be preserved. Sometimes I think it might be less costly to tear down the old buildings and build a new one with all modern stuff; clean washrooms, WIFI...
Let this project be a success in both quality of works and accountability.

That market has been there for a very long time. It will still be standing long after we have passed away. Unlike the PPP constructions, this one actually looks solid.

Picture don't lie. All Blackman.

The markets along with Georgetown restoration comes under the Mayor and City Council.
Go ask Hammie, why it wasn't done before.
Uncle Nehru is absolutely right.
Thorne, is fuss time I hear duh he right
Again we see why the rural Indian areas are being neglected as the Granger is funneling money from Indo to the majority Blacks in Georgetown. While the restoration is admirable, the burden should be on the Georgetown taxpayers rather than the taxpayers country wide.

And that's the problem. So few East Indians have been willing to do any work to improve the country for 23 years, they can't find it in themselves to start working on national projects now. But as soon as the market rebuild is completed you can bet your bottom dollar that it is East Indians who are going to be demanding the majority of stalls.

You are the intentionally facetious one. You refuse to acknowledge the redistribution of wealth by the Granger administration, taking from the Indians and giving to the Blacks. Isn't Green responsible for restoration of Georgetown public property? Why is Granger funding this from the national tax fund?

ahmmm b_gurd, "confusion" â "facetious[ness]" in any literate universe
like i said . . . your poor education and all that
Nothing this Govt does is good for Guyana by these fools.
For da one KP who see is only black people building the market, is he complaining that the Indians are not given a chance or that they really doan give a rats arse about the building trade? Perhaps he should also ask why don't we see more Indians in the Forces especially the GDF.

A picture speaks a thousand words. As for the GDF the requirements are brutal force and ignorance. We don't qualify.

One of them ...you/they certainly do.
At the end of the day, it is good to see the restoration being done.
As a former Kitty resident, I am glad the market is being renovated. I lived in Kitty for 11 years and for about a year Mitwah lived near me. That market provided me with supplies like newspapers, chicken, fish, flour, rice, greens etc. I even got my replacement national ID card upstairs.

I am ecstatic this is been done as a Guyanese , its a land mark . It was also a disgrace it had to deteriorate to this condition for years. However, don't you think your subject line was in correct.
I use to enjoy eating my chicken in the rough and milk shake across Demico , but it was a eye sore .

Demico was next to Stabroek market, not Kitty Market.

Demico Quick Serve was there, and next door to Demico was Bish and Sons.
come guys we should all rejoice that the market is being restored. Now is not the time to lay blame on what caused the delay. The main thing is that progress is happening. Now let the Stabroek Market be next.

Same here, Ian. Sometimes I used to drop in to that Demico Qik Serve, buy my stuff, find myself a shady breezy table in the yard, and enjoy. That Demico building in Kitty was/is owned by Cecil Persaud, a former Mayor of GT. He lived upstairs.

Yes Cecil Persaud lived upstairs and he had his Taxi services downstairs and next to the taxi place was a Bata shoe store, across the street on Barr street side, was FK young rum shop at least that was in my days, the place later became Rick's and Sari rum shop.
