Democracy absent within press association – No elections held in three years
The absence of democracy within the Guyana Press Association(GPA) is being highlighted as some media practitioners lament that body’s non-holding of elections over the past three years. This they say is despite the fact that elections for office bearers are constitutionally due every year. Current head of the GPA Gordon Moseley along with his executives have been serving throughout this period and it remains unknown to most members why elections haven’t been held on time.
One reporter, speaking under the condition of anonymity said it smacks of hypocrisy and double standards as the GPA is often critical of the current government on certain aspects of governance.
