The greatest, sensationalist print medium in the history of Guyana and the Caribbean can be dependent on for its continuous flow of propaganda, lies, deceit, hate – all the downsides that culminate in one word that epitomises its raison d’ etre and modus operandi – virile hate of the PPP/C Government. And what a great, dark job it has done, thereby creating for itself and publishers an unenviable niche where only its pages can belong. A most recent example of this print’s ongoing anti-national vendetta and crusade against the government is yet seen on a recent weekend’s front page issue in bold caption: “Guyana Marriott costs three times more than Jamaica”. Without commenting on the merits/demerits of this headline, one can be taken aback by the sustained attack on this project by a publisher, on behalf of his friend, who is trembling at the prospect of his hotel being made irrelevant by this proposed structure. |
