Just learnt that Britain and France will be sending arms also. This can quickly escalate into a World War.

Perhaps Mitwah ... perhaps.

As issues/events progress, it will become much clearer how the situation will escalate to a major world-wide conflict.

Important to see what develops and what Russia will do in Finland, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia and the immediate neighboring countries.

Ukrainian officials say they have "complete control" over the country's second largest city Kharkiv following a day of heavy fighting with Russian forces. Video shows Russian soldiers being shot at as they enter the city behind armoured vehicles. Other footage shows Ukrainian troops firing RPGs from behind a street corner. Kharkiv is close to the Russian border in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine is a hotbed of NAZI supporters. So no surprise that Germany would help them. By the way, if you are Chinese, Black, or Indian of race you can't escape from Ukraine. Only whites are allowed to flee.

Old societies have a lot of prejudices, war is a way of life for them. This war is no different. The West wants to isolate Putin by advancing NATO into Eastern Europe.

Oil hit $107 per barrel.  Guyana will make at least 300 million on the next lift.

Mr. Accountant, that increase would increase the cost of producing goods. The Economists are saying that an increase of $10/barrel could raise inflation by 10 basic points. Guyana imports most of its goods including basic food stuff. The rise in the price would finally be passed on to the poor Guyanese consumers.

Intervention in Ukraine was a result of the failure to resolve Russian security concerns

Dear Editor,

Carl von Clausewitz, the famed 18th – 19th century German General and military theoretician wrote in his celebrated book “Von Kriege” (On War) that war is a continuation of politics by other means.

Therefore to understand any war we need to know something about the politics that conventional politics and diplomacy could not resolve. This was what I was attempting when I wrote a letter to the press pointing out that Russia’s intervention into Ukraine was a result of the failure to resolve the question of Russian security concerns which was being debated since 1999 with the US and the NATO Alliance.

If NATO had guaranteed that it would not allow Ukraine to join that body, this war would not have happened.

I thought it necessary to bring those facts out because the statements of CARICOM leaders and CARICOM were not helpful in giving the masses in the region an appreciation of what were the main issues in that conflict.

Unfortunately, it is not just CARICOM leaders that appear to be cowed into not expressing the need for Russian Security concerns to be appreciated. The Guyanese media, the total media, Government and privately owned, have all gone in for self censorship.

They prefer to join the corporate media abroad and work to demonize Putin talking about his “imperial ambitions.”

It boggles the mind. After all Russia has no troops on the borders of the US or Germany, France etc. but all those countries have military personnel and forces on Russian borders. The US is separated by two huge oceans from Europe but it has military forces on Russia’s border.

Really, therefore, one may ask who really has imperial ambitions?

Our media, by shutting away other’s point of view because it does not correspond to the narrative of the corporate media or the leaders of NATO countries is delivering a blow to free speech which is a key component of democracy. At this point it may seem small but it is a slip that can turn into a slide.

This shifting of point of views reminds me of an observation that was made by Mr. Ashton Chase during the oppressive days of Burnhamism. In referring to some decisions of the courts he said that judges in Guyana had reached a point where Burnham did not have to tell them what decision to make, they anticipated what he wanted and ruled accordingly.

Self censorship will take us back to those times. Be aware!

Yours faithfully,

Donald Ramotar

Editor-in-Chief’s note: Three letters by Mr Ramotar on this subject were not published as they contained errors of fact. As it relates to this letter,  Russia does have troops on the borders of two NATO countries: Poland and Lithuania by virtue of its heavily armed exclave, Kaliningrad which is also home to its Baltic fleet.

You still not in touch with the economic realities of Guyana.  The earnings from oil due to high prices will off-set the inflationary effects on the economy and leave us in the black.  Don't get tie up with the trash being peddled by losers and charlatans.

Please Donald..BJ should slap yo rass.

Look, do us a favour, pack your bags and head over to your idol Putin, hang out with him at the other end of his long desk so he doesn't catch whatever ails you. No one is demonizing Putin as you put it, he does a good job of doing it himself.

On the other hand, Ukraine's Prez Zelenskyy has shown he has bigger baltz than Putin, he should beat Putin at his own game then annex Russia.

Zelenskyy's actions reminds me of an old Prussian saying.."A man's worth began only when he was willing to die for his principles"

You remind me of  Proverbs 23:5

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?

For riches certainly make themselves wings,

Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

Russian activist, 77, detained by police while protesting against Ukraine war.

Yelena Osipova, a 77-year-old artist and activist, was marched away by a group of police while she protested against the war in Ukraine in St Petersburg. Thousands of people in cities across Russia have been defying police threats and staging protests against the invasion of Ukraine. Authorities have a low tolerance for demonstrations and marches, and attending them can have serious consequences including fines, arrests and even imprisonment ‘Ukrainians are our friends’: the young Russian anti-war protesters defying Putin .
