Has Mrs. Harper resigned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

Dear Editor, In relation to this move of desperation by the PPP, has Ms. Elizabeth Harper resigned as Director General of the Guyana Ministry of Foreign Affairs? She cannot continue to be the top public servant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also be the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the PPP. This farcical “selection” shows again how loosely the PPP plays with democracy and their contempt for Guyanese. This so-called representative of the CIVIC component of the PPP-CIVIC was unanimously supported by the PPP Central Executive Committee. Where was the CIVIC component in that process? Where has the CIVIC component of the PPP-CIVIC being since forever? CIVIC society all over the world is seen as comprised of e.g. University staff, persons in the private sector, the leadership in the Religious sector, persons in non-profit, non-governmental organizations. Persons in the government service, even more so those in top management positions in government like Ms. Harper are not seen as being part of CIVIC society. This goes to why the question of Ms Harper’s resignation is so important. Also going back to the democracy which the PPP continues to trample were real members of CIVIC society in Guyana consulted? This is a rhetorical question as we know that Ms. Harper is not a choice of the real members of Guyanese CIVIC society like Christopher Ram. As some have already said, Ms. Harper if she continues in this charade of being representative of Guyanese CIVIC society would erase all her years of service to Guyana, which even now must be questioned, given this “selection”, and the issues raised about Guyana’s Foreign Service since the PPP came into power. Questions like the non-rotation of Ambassadors and High Commissioners and the racial profile of the Guyanese Ambassadors and High Commissioners selected by the PPP administration. More motivation for Guyanese to vote these jokers out. By the way the question still remains: when is the constitution to be followed and the Guyana Parliament be dissolved?
