I remember two black guys from my village used to work in Guymines up in Linden, they would return after three months of work, see them in Braddax Bar spending money like drunken sailors, buying for everyone. As labourers they were making as much as three to four times as a factory worker in Uitvlugt Estate. The bauxite plant   with such high wages eventually priced it's self out of business.

And you also know that when sugar workers got paid their wives would immediately have to show up to collect some of the money before these men drank it out.

The first time I went to the Corentyne I remember seeing scores of men lying by the road looking as if they were dead. I asked what had happened and was told that this is the result of a very active night of drinking.

Note that the sun was high up in the sky and they were still knocked out, so drunk that they passed out.

So cease with your racism.  It is every evident!  Alcoholism is a problem in Guyana that crosses ALL ethnic boundaries.

As to the pay. Well scream to the Canadians that they paid them too much because bauxite worker pay was always way above that of comparable jobs well before the industry was nationalized!

Mr Racist, I did not try to label your brothers as drunks, my point was to show the workers from the bauxite plant earn a very good living and when they do return home they can afford to buy drinks for everyone in the bar.
