I guess the way he viewed Indians in the struggles for South Africa. As to the idea of keeping indians out of the ANC, it was in a passing statement on a documentary.

What I do know is that there were several Indians in the hierarchy of the ANC. Mandela was very close to them. On a visit to Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned I was struck by the remoteness of the location and yet with Cape Town just a short distance away. On that island Mandela had the company of close comrades, a few were Indians including Ahmed Kathrada.
