Let me give you my honest to god opinion on this matter.

Anil, acted immature and ruined his chances of running as President in the future.

This was a private conversation and many things are said in bad taste during some private conversations. Anil expressed a lapse in judgement and should have acted in a more professional manner given his position.

Is an apology due ? Yes

Should he resign ? Not yet.
