Apparently the gun amnesty did not work as we see career criminals still terrorizing the nation. Many of these young men were armed for political purposes by the opposition when the PPP was in power. Granger is having difficulty taking back the guns from his supporters.

23-year-old remanded for robbery under arms

A man was on Wednesday remanded to prison by Magistrate Alex Moore in Court 10 of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after he appeared before him charged with robbery under arms and possession of a gun and ammunition.

Oliver Ridley, 23, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which read that on Sunday, October 11 at Meadow Brook, Georgetown, he attempted to commit a felony; that is while being armed with a gun, he attempted to rob Yonnet Nurse.

He also denied the allegations which read that on the same occasion he was found in possession of a .32 pistol and one live matching round of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.

The particulars of the charges were not revealed in court. Bail was denied and the accused was remanded to prison and will make his second appearance on November 12.
