Would-be bandit, Troy Williams, was captured shortly after noon yesterday, minutes after he had robbed a minibus driver and a passenger at gunpoint of $8,000 and $500 respectively.
The robbery occurred around 12.30 hrs at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Troy Williams, 23, hails from Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
Police identified the victims as Ameer Karim, 51, of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, and passenger Trevor Blackett, 41, of Mocha, East Bank Demerara.
Police said that Karim, who plies the Georgetown/ Grove, East Bank Demerara route, had just left the East Bank Demerara bus park when Williams, who was standing on the roadway, signaled him to stop.
Williams then entered the bus and sat at the back. When the bus reached Providence, the ‘passenger’ told the driver to stop.
But before exiting, Williams allegedly pointed a gun at Trevor Blackett, the other passenger, and ordered him to hand over his money. Blackett gave him $500.
The robber then relieved Ameer Karim, the driver, of $8,000 before escaping on a bicycle that was parked nearby.
But one of the passengers alerted ranks at the Providence Police Station. A patrol then intercepted Williams near Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
He still had the gun, an unlicensed .32 pistol with three rounds, and the stolen cash, stashed in his underpants.
He is to be charged shortly
