Appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts was 27-year-old Albert Nurse of 683 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden. It is alleged that between February 15 and 16 at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Nurse stole four Bedford truck axles valued at $300,000. The items belong to Bert Cumberbatch.
Nurse pleaded not guilty to the allegation and was ordered to return to court on March 8, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
An attorney for the court petitioned for his client to be released on reasonable bail. He told the court that Nurse was arrested Monday morning and taken to the McKenzie Police Station after Cumberbatch reported the matter. The lawyer said that his client has an unblemished criminal record.
Meanwhile, in another case, a Prashad Nagar taxi driver was also ordered to post $50,000 bail after it was alleged he fraudulently converted a laptop computer.
Stephan Birkett, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on January 19, at Prashad Nagar, being solely entrusted with the laptop valued at $150,000 to pawn and return proceeds to Joshua Williams, he converted same to his own use and benefit. The court was told that the computer is the property of Williams.
Prosecutor Jones said that the two parties are known to each other and that the item was not recovered. Jones had no objection to bail and told the court that the defendant has no antecedents.
