Spanish environmentalist robbed, declines prosecution
Two men accused of robbing a Spanish national escaped the walls of prison after charges against them were dropped by the virtual complainant, when they appeared yesterday before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on March 6, last, on North Road, Georgetown, Clifton Charles and Jamal Edwards, robbed Murielle Tribecke of one hand bag, a pair of sunglasses, one identification card, one passport, one visa card and $47,000 in cash .
The accused were not allowed to plead to the indictable charge.
Tribecke took the stand and told Prosecutor Corporal Kerry Bostwick and Magistrate Judy Latchman that she was robbed that day at 3:50 pm by the accused.
However she said that she does not wish to provide any evidence on the matter that she simply wants her belongings returned so that she can leave for Annai the following day.
The victim resides in Spain and works as an environmentalist. She came to Guyana with other colleagues pertaining to her area of work when the calamity befell her.
Magistrate Latchman ruled that the case was hereby dismissed and the accused were free to leave. Charles and Edwards exited the courtroom with satisfied grins on their faces
