Suspects arrested shortly after robbery


 

Quick action by the police has led to the arrest of two suspects, minutes after they committed a robbery at the Meadow Bank wharf at Ruimveldt, Georgetown around 00:45 hrs yesterday.
During the process of arresting the men, one of them sustained gunshot wounds to both legs. He has been identified has 40-year-old Nazeem

He is hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Another suspect has escaped.
According to information received, three men, one armed with a handgun stored the Wild Caught Fresh Fish Depot at the Meadow Bank wharf and held the supervisor, Shane Robin at gunpoint. Robin was gun-butted and the men took a camera, DVR, a radio set and other articles.
Kaieteur News understands that a public-spirited citizen witnessed the robbery and called the police, who responded and confronted the men as they were leaving.
During the confrontation, one of the unarmed suspects was shot to both legs and the other with the firearm ran in the depot and concealed himself in the ceiling.
He was however extracted and ranks recovered an unlicensed 9MM pistol with eight live rounds from him.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a release said that the third suspect managed to escape and efforts are being made to have him apprehended.
The suspect who is in custody is a 25-year-old resident of Fifth Avenue Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
The son of the Depot’s owner, Kevin Jettoo said that he was informed that bandits broke into the business after midnight.
Jettoo said that it was one of several robberies that the business entity has been subjected to recently.
