Security guard stabs man before robbing him of cash, cell phones – court hears
A 23-year-old security guard has been remanded to prison for allegedly stabbing a man several times with an ice-pick before relieving him of cash and cellular phones during a robbery.

It is alleged that on December 15, last, Jermaine Jeffery, of Lot 48 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, while armed with an ice-pick robbed Yohance Smith of a cell phone, $1,400 cash and other items-property of the said Smith-and another cell phone valued $46,000-property of Keron Humphrey.
The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The court was told that the defendant confronted the virtual complainant (VC) at Irving and Laluni Streets, Queenstown and stabbed him several times before relieving him of the cash and cell phones. Smith raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens ran to his rescue and apprehended Jeffery and handed him over to police.
According to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the defendant was positively identified by the VC on an identification parade. Prosecutor Jones opposed bail for Jeffery citing the nature and gravity of the charge. Jones also pointed out that Smith was stabbed during the robbery and that an offensive weapon was used in the commissioning of the crime.
The Prosecutor informed the court that the articles were recovered in the defendant’s possession and are presently lodged at the police station. Jeffery will return to court on January 11.
