THE Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) had its first seizure for the year with the arrest of a 24-year old Guyanese woman who was busted Wednesday with 4.2 kilograms of cocaine in her possession at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport.Head of CANU, James Singh told the Guyana Chronicle that the drug was stashed in a suitcase that belonged to the woman who was preparing to board a flight to Antigua and Barbuda. Reports reveal that the woman is a frequent traveller. The cocaine was discovered in packets in the sides of her suitcases.
The drug mule was identified as Clarabel Thompson and she is expected to face charges soon.

Meanwhile, Singh during the recent launch of the National Drug Strategy Master Plan (NDSMP) had noted the importance of collaboration with partners, both locally and internationally, especially with the emergence of new and innovative methods of drug trafficking.

The four-year plan aims at tackling the rising use and transport of licit and illicit drugs.
