Both the US and China needs each other commodities to different extent, this is a game of chicken to see who would give way first. Bottom line, the Chinese needs the US more than the other way around. Trump is in his lowest approval rating ever and dosnt give a shit, the Chinese is smart enough to figure Trump has nothing to lose and would be cautious to call his 'bluff'. That said, I would bet the Chinese would be first to give way...
