Reply to "Hearing of Appeal : Zulfikar Mustapha vs The Attorney General of Guyana GYCV2019/007"

Even the government lawyers demonstrated a lack of understanding of the constitution and the importance of the Accord which requires consultation which was instituted to prevent the president in making a unilateral decision.

The government lawyers erred in insisting that the President can make a unilateral decision based on the constitution BEFORE the accord was in place.

The judges appear to have a clear understanding of the constitution and the accord.

Based on what I heard during the hearing, it is most likely that the judges will rule in favour of Mustapha and order consultation with the opposition leader and granger in accordance with the accord in selecting a GECOM chairman.

To make matters worse, the first lawyer for the government appeared confused and made several contradictory statements. That was a complete disaster for the government.
