Once put together, the enormous beef patty is stacked with 40 slices of cheese and an indeterminate amount of crispy bacon. Consume it in 2.5 hours and the dish is on the house, but be warned: the challenge has only been successfully completed once in 27 years.

Seeing is believing: Vern’s Pizza Company in Saskatoon makes a ginormous 18-inch pizza that tops the scale at 10 pounds. The pizza has all the fixings, starting with Vern’s pizza sauce, along with pepperoni, salami, ham, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, pineapple and Canadian mozzarella. It’s one of their best-sellers, especially for parties and sporting events.

Get cracking with a seven-pound breakfast at Mo’s Family Restaurant. Known as “The Ultimate Breakfast Challenge,” a giant metal platter is filled with a smorgasbord of breakfast items: three pancakes the size of hub caps, three bacon slices, three eggs, three slices of French toast, three orders of hash browns, three sausages, three slices of ham, and either 20 ounces of coffee or 10 ounces of juice. The prize for conquering this challenge in 90 minutes or less? A meal on the house.

Here’s a feast fit for a king: take an entire cooked lobster and stuff it into a huge bun smothered in lobster mayo, then top it with crustacean legs. It’s a dish of epic proportions at the Saint John Ale House, which starts with a 2.5 pound lobster boiled in Bay of Fundy salt water that’s smothered in tomalley and lobster roe mayonnaise, then served on sourdough bread fried in lobster butter. This humdinger sandwich retails for $47 (remember to schedule in time for a post-meal nap).

Their “JBB Challenge” really breaks the burger bar: a colossal two-pount beef patty squeezed between Belgian waffles layered with pulled meats, chili, roast beef, bacon, onion rings, a trio of cheeses and a half pound of chicken wings. Mon dieu!

It’s here you can have a “Heart Attack on a Plate” – a 15-pound poutine that consists of crispy potatoes, chicken, bacon, hot dogs, minced beef, ham, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, curd cheese and mozzarella, all smothered in gravy. It’s definitely the biggest and most decorated poutine in town.

Hunter’s Ale House in Charlottetown has turned the late Canadian actor John Candy into an epic-sized menu item. If you can devour their whopping 72-ounce steak – called “The John Candy” – in an hour or less, the $80 charge is on the house. A total of 89 people have attempted to ingest this giant steak, and only seven have succeeded.

It’s $40 to sink your teeth into a doozy of a donair at Uncle Moe’s Donairs and Falafels in Calgary. Known as the D-Rex Challenge, it’s a pita filled with more than two pounds of shaved beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, and slathered in a sweet, garlicky donair sauce. Devour the three-pound dish in 45 minutes or less and it’s free of charge, and your picture will forever hang on the restaurant’s wall of fame. Vancouver’s Moose’s Down Under has a challenge that’s not for chickens: anyone who finishes 2.2 pounds of chicken parmesan in under 45 minutes gets the $35 charge waived and a free tee. This massive plate consists of four humongous pieces of breaded chicken smothered in tomato sauce and melted mozzarella, sitting atop a mountain of fries. Advance appointments required!
