11th Pentecostal Fire/Linden Inter Church B’ball Final… South Assembly crowned new champs; MVP is Vibert Benjamin

South Assembly of God Church are the 2017 champions of the Linden Inter Church Basketball Championship bouncing past last year’s finalists Pentecostal Fire on Monday last when the final of this year’s championship concluded at the Mackenzie Sports Club, Hard Court.
Their first title came in the 11th edition of the tournament which was organised by the Pentecostal Fire Church.
Vibert Benjamin led the new champions with an awesome performance on the night tallying 30 points to go with 13 huge rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, a performance which earned him Most Valuable Player and Best Defensive Player awards, respectively.
Benjamin had solid support from Emmanuel Archibald with 23 points; he also copped the Most Blocked Shots award with Donnel Benjamin adding 22 points in the win.
For Pentecostal Fire, Yannick Tappin was their best player with 26 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists and was named the runner-up Most Valuable Player.
Israel Warden contributed 18 points and Akeem Powers, 10.
In the third place playoff, former champions Mount Carmel bounced past Calvary Temple 52-48 on account of Adrian Webster’s 22 points and Joel Webster’s, 10. For Calvary Temple, Geoffrey LaRose scored 15 points, Immanuel Larose 11 and Dwight McKinnon, eight.
Pastor Corbet Benjamin of South Assembly won the Pastors’ shootout competition while male accolade went to Akini Wilson while the female winner was Telesa Gibbons.
Among the Under-9 shootout winners were Kayden Chase (boys) and Gabriela Molenu (girls).
Praise Tabernacle carted off the three-points-shootout contest while they were also adjudged the Most Disciplined team.
Levar Mc Phoy was named the Most Improved Player from Calvary Temple; Joel Webster the award fro scoring the Most Points (108) in the competition.
The Best Supporting Fan was Leon Ellis; Most Assists was picked up by Pentecostal Fire’s Keifer Tappin while Theodore Tappin also of Fire was the winner of the Most Steals prize.
