Exciting action is anticipated this weekend as the 14th annual Seven Seas and Regan Rodrigues Memorial cycle events are set to be held tomorrow and Sunday, respectively. The Seven Seas meet will commence at 09:30hrs at the National Park and according to organiser Hassan Mohamed some eight events are carded for day with the main attraction being the 35 laps Open contest.
The other races that will be held are the 10 lap juniors, five laps veteran, five lap mountain bikes, three laps for boys and girls, 6-9, 9-12 and 12-14 years BMX. Michael Anthony is the defending champion in the feature 35-lap race which he won in one hour, 18 minutes, 15.26 seconds while last yearβs 10-lap junior winner is Briton John in a time of 24 minutes, 34. 59 seconds.
The 13th edition of the Regan Rodrigues Memorial race will commence at Wales Police Station at 08:00hrs on Sunday, proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before finishing at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, covering a distance of 50 miles.
The top six finishers along with the top three juniors, veterans, mountain bikers and females will receive cash prizes and trophies. Eight prime prizes are also up for the taking. Raul Leal emerged the winner in 2016 which spanned 35 miles in a time of one hour, 27 minutes and 02 seconds.
Christopher Cornelius, Ian Jackson and Shawn Boodram are the defending champions for the juniors, veterans and mountain bike segments respectively.
Rodrigues was a former President of the Guyana Cycle Federation and Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club as well as a former champion motor racing driver. This event is being sponsored by Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Ltd.
