161 public servants from several state agencies are now unemployed, as the combined opposition APNU and AFC continue to slice billions off of the 2012 budget.
The two parties who hold a slim one-seat majority in the house already made several cuts to the budget during Wednesday’s sitting of parliament.
The first agency to lose its budgetary allocation was the GINA who was given GY$1 leaving its 40 odd employees without a job.
State radio and TV NCN was also given GY$1 and may be sending home 30% of its almost 200 staff.
The government’s One Laptop Per Family project was also plunged into jeopardy and its hundreds workers and the 90,000 laptops set for distribution may not become a reality.
The opposition’s further Budget cut, stripped the President strip all his staff and advisers.
Among those to be affected are Clive Lloyd, Gail Teixeira, Roger Luncheon and Pundit Reepu Daman Persaud among those affected.
Funds to move fiber optic cable project forward to bring 100 % access to internet and ICT services were also brought to a halt after APNU and AFC votes against provision.
The cuts also stripped the President of budgetary provision to help poor and vulnerable groups.
