A 70-year-old woman was found hanging in her East Bank Berbice (EBB) home on Wednesday morning.
Dead is Nowattie Doodnauth of Edinburgh Village, EBB. Reports are that the discovery was made by the woman’s son-in-law when he went to check on her.

This newspaper was told that the woman was found hanging over her bed which is located under a step in the two-storey house.  It is believed that the mother of six wrapped part of her bed sheet around her neck before tying the other end to the step.
According to the dead woman’s relatives, she was found in a standing position with her feet firmly on the bed.
Reports are the woman had attempted to take her own life twice in the past.
A relative, Barbara Seecharran said that on one of those occasions, Doodnauth tried to drown herself but failed.
“Well, she know to swim so every time she go under the water, she coming back up,” Seecharan said.
Reports are that Doodnauth suffered a nervous breakdown after her husband passed away. She has been receiving treatment for severe depression over the past two years.

This piece of news reminds me so much of my nanee who hanged herself one year after my nana died of a stroke in 1974. Like this Berbice woman, my nanee tied her bedsheet around her neck and on the bed "head" and then lowered her body to the floor, thus dying of strangulation. She had missed her husband dearly.

It's tough to lose a loved one.
A friend of mine from Kildonan died Wednesday night in his sleep of a heart attack. He was in his mid 50s. It's not an easy task to accept death.

I have been told by a cardiologist friend of mine that the most common decade of one's life to have a heart attack is in one's 50s.  Chances are if you make it into your 60s without having one it might be smooth sailing until you reach your 80s if you are in general good health.  Same is true for a stroke I believe.

He is a muslim friend who died on Wednesday but he is being buried on Friday. I thought that Muslims are supposed to be buried within 24 hours. His body was removed and placed in the mosque until Friday. He will be buried after prayers.

Indeed very sad. The lost of a spouse is considered to be most depressing.

This is why I am involved in satsanghs to sing our bhajans, do praathnas and read from the Bhagvad Gita, Ramayan or other pertinent religious texts; to help sooth those who are grieving and bring some healing to the mind.

Skelly, that's exactly the kind of death I want for myself. I've already told my family that if I could get one more, final heart attack in my bed, it would be most welcome.

Gilly, man don't say that. We all want to live forever, even we know it is not possible. Like you, I am in my 60s and in good health(that's what my doctor said a few months ago). I do enjoy life with my family. I hunt and fish during the open seasons. I do a lot of stuff outside the house just to keep myself busy and moving. I watch what I eat also..very little meat. I eat fish at least 3 times per week.
Hope you live to see many more years brother. I am pulling for you.
