Five years ago, contractors undertook the task of fashioning modern sanitary facilities at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Today persons arriving are being greeted by the unsatisfactory condition of the toilet facility.
From non-functioning toilets to the deplorable state of the lavatory itself, this arrangement constructed under the previous administration has arriving passengers twitching their noses in disgust.
One passenger who arrived yesterday morning stated that not only is the toilet not flushing, the pipe leading to one of the sinks had been cut and a faucet was added, resulting in passengers having to reach under the sinks to access water. Also, the water drains onto the floor of the lavatory.
The aluminium hand bars that were placed to aid senior citizens and persons with disabilities had been repainted. The paint has started to flake. The damaged door lock was replaced by a tiny bolt.

Also, the mouldings on and around the toilet door, and in the facility, are not of the same size or even design, and are falling apart, adding to the unpleasant look.
The facility came under intense scrutiny after it was revealed in the media some years ago that the then PPP government had spent over $8 million to construct same. It was the view of many that the facility was heavily overpriced. This had caused outrage among many citizens, mostly contractors.
