Parties must work together – new first lady

Guyana’s new first lady, Mrs Deolatchmee Ramotar has said the three major political parties must work together to unite the country in the interest of all Guyanese.
Mrs Ramotar made the statement during the swearing in ceremony of Guyana’s seventh executive president, Donald Ramotar on Saturday. The first lady said that since no one party has the majority in Parliament, it is in the interest of all of the players and people within the country that the Alliance For Change, the A Partnership for National Unity and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic work to bring the nation together.
Asked to express her feelings after becoming the country’s newest first lady, Mrs Ramotar said that “it was one of nervousness, yet excitement”. She said that she, like all other Guyanese, hope that the politicians in the National Assembly can find common ground.
“I think it is time that they work to bring the country together, since no one party has a majority in Parliament….we can make it happen and must learn to embrace each other,” she explained.
The mother of three said that she is also “excited” about the future of Guyana because of the plans and programmes that her husband would pilot and implement. She expressed confidence that he will deliver on the expectations of Guyanese society, noting that at the end of day, she will give him all of her support even if the challenges intensifies during his tenure in office.
