This is life under the PPP paradise. Then they wonder why the crime rate is so high; committed by youths under the age of 30. It is really simple. They were nurtured by a corrupt system. A system which advertised daily to get rich quick by any means. A system which rewards thieves and con artists.

When you live in a society where youth unemployment is around 50%; dropout rates are astronomical; educational levels in the doldrums; crooked politocians; compromised security force; ineffective judiciary; highest suicide rates in the world; and the depletion of social norms. What does one expect the outcome to be? Where and how many treatment centers are available? We have 65% of the kids at NOC who were picked up for vagrancy.

Guyana has a high index of rapes. Guyana has porous borders where guns flow like our many sources of water. This is a morally depraved society and the kids, by resorting to drugs, are crying out for HELP. Sadly, the officials elected to govern are only interested in self aggrandizement.

ANY WHITE PAPER RELEASED THAT CONTAINED SCATHING INDICTMENTS WERE ALL REBUFFED BY THE PREVIOUS REGIME. THIS IS NOT THE MODUS OPERANDI OF A GOVERNMENT. FOR EXAMPLE, A REPORT ON TRAFFICKING WAS MET WITH DERISION. A REPORT ON LOW ECONOMIC TARGETS WAS ATTACKED. A REPORT ON SUICIDE RATES WAS SCOFFED.

Thank god for this new government who have already launched an awareness campaign on suicide. You cannot DENY these problems and hope they disappear. You cannot PROROGUE The Parliament thinking the people aren't going to throw you out.

I am a strong advocate for the reintroduction of National Service. Our youths need discipline, opportunities, employment, trade, nationalist fervor, etc.
