THE regional administration of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has refuted allegations by the Alliance For Change (AFC)  about the dumping of sharps, needles and syringes at the Onderneeming dump site on the Essequibo Coast. It was responding to an article headlined, ‘Dumping of medical waste near Essequibo village continuing, says Hughes- warns of disaster happening’ in the Stabroek News of Tuesday, January 22.
The regional administration said the publication is inaccurate and does not paint a truthful picture about the disposal of waste from the hospital.
A release said, at no time are sharps, needles and syringes dumped carelessly at the Onderneeming dumpsite.
A visit to the hospital on Wednesday revealed that all sharps and needles, along with syringes, are carefully stored in small boxes with labels which are locked in special metal boxes with a padlock awaiting burning, which is done twice weekly in the incinerator located near to where the metal box is situated.
The area where the sharps and needles are stored is also fenced with a steel gate that is locked. A visit to the site in company of the Hospital Steward, Omkar Persaud and Chariman of the Riverstown/Annandale Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Bash Narine and two officers from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed that residents of Onderneeming were also dumping garbage along the road to the dumpsite and in the area where garbage from the hospital is dumped.

Partly burned
Hospital Steward Persaud said the garbage, which was partly burned, will be buried.
According to him, front end loaders were expected from the regional administration to help digging ponds to burn the garbage.
Narine  said the AFC is not truthful about the situation and should speak to officers of the government to know what is taking place before making such statements.
He said Red Village, which was crafted in the jungle, is a partnership project between Food for the Poor and the Lil Red Foundation and it is not at all being affected by the dumpsite as stated by the AFC’s  Hughes.
Narine said the claim by Hughes and his party, that syringes, needles, bloody gauze and human body parts on the heap are dumped by the Suddie Hosptial, is not the truth.
“What Hughes should have done was to warn the residents of Red Village and Onderneeming not to dump garbage along the  road to the dumpsite,” he said.
The situation at the disposal site is not alarming to the extent that it will require the intervention of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) as Hughes is suggesting.
Hughes should also understand that there is no medical crisis at the Suddie Hospital that is creating a national threat.
“There is no disaster waiting to happen,” Region 2 Chairman  Parmanand Persaud declared, noting that, at no time sharps, needles or syringes are dumped carelessly at Onderneeming.
He said the situation is not a crisis one as Hughes is claiming.
“Probably Hughes is building a mountain out of a mole hill," the Chairman remarked.

Most dissapointing, rather than just bury and burn the darn hospital waste, they got to now trying to pull wool over the people eyes.

Now think carefully about this.

Every family who was affected by those waste and old needles in the dump and the stench of medical waste, will never ever vote PPP since the PPP just does not care about them.

The PPP and Parmanand more focused on teking care of their imagine.

Well the cat is out the PPP, the PPP is no longer Jagan's party and this PPP is no longer interested in the working class.

If these pictures are accurate then the AFC is owed an apology. I always trust Gerhard since he is the most balanced member of the AFC.

Those pictures are horrible. As a person who does not partake in any meat eating, it makes it even worse.

Keep it up. That is the role of the opposition is to be objective and keep the government on their feet.

Gerhard, that is the real role of the opposition. Guyana will be a lot better place when the opposition does it work constructively and the government is held accountable for it's actions and record.

Let us move Guyana forward. Government and opposition. It is a win win situation for all.

What happened to demonizing anyone that remotely contradicts official mudhead statements no matter how divorced from reality they are?

Is this the dawn of a new approach by the Mudhead Party or just a temporary lull in the stupidity?

Nagamootoo was taken by surprise and could not explain why he ‘lied’ to the house.
He was laughed at by both members of the government and opposition, even as he denied the details of the Hansard.
Nandlall chastised the opposition for telling the electorate during the 2011 elections campaign that they will repeal the legislation which guarantees certain benefits to the former President, but which cannot be done.
He told the House that the opposition will have to apologise to the electorate for misleading them on the issue, explaining that any future legislation cannot be retroactive and therefore cannot affect the benefits of the former or current Presidents  because, according to the Constitution of Guyana, they will enjoy benefits, when they demit office, which were in existence at the time they acceded to office.
Nandlall, in a scholarly presentation, quoted extensively from the Constitution of Guyana (Articles 142 and 144) and legal authorities from the Caribbean and the Commonwealth to support his contention that certain benefits for former Presidents are guaranteed.
He said any attempt to change this “borders on lunacy” and will not be in accordance with the Constitution.
Nandlall also noted that while the opposition was attempting to cap the benefits of former presidents based on affordability by the state, they were silent on the capping of benefits of the  Leader of the Opposition which are similar to that of the President.
The Attorney -General argued that any former President should be treated with dignity, because during their tenure in office, they have to work extremely hard and beyond the call of duty and therefore cannot be compared to that of an ordinary worker.

I News, Guyana Hard Times newspaper, the Chronicle of Lies along with their robotic writers and contributors like Conscience are all PPP propaganda outfits.

Would you expect better political analysis from them?

The intelligent human mind does have the ability to discriminate sense from nonsense, unlike the political parrots in the PPP.

We have many intelligent people on this blog and in Guyana and they will pick sense from NONSENSE.

That is why the majority in Guyana voted against the PPP.  They picked sense from nonsense and they made a sensible choice.

If any elections are called in Guyana in the near future, the PPP will continue to get LESS THAN 50%.

Sorry Uncle Conscience!  FACTS ARE FACTS!

I always call a spade a spade. Sometimes the AFC gets all excited and defensive when I call them out. In this case, I stand for what is right.
