AFC must stop the risky behavior
Dear Editor,
I am absolutely proud of the measured way in which the leader of the APNU/PNCR coalition have carried himself. His leadership has rankled some inexperienced members who undoubtedly are driven by ulterior motives. What Guyanese must understand is that the APNU/PNCR is “THE” largest opposition party in Guyana, and would have won the 2011 election if not for the “alleged” rigging that took place. Many political savvy Guyanese have also realized that without the majority opposition, the PPP regime would have continued to ravish the country. Noteworthy, President Ramotar has enumerated that the majority opposition “has stymied” the PPP government, in parliament.
The APNU must take the interest of its constituents into full consideration whenever it decides to give support for the NCM. The interest of APNU should be country and party first. APNU must protect its own interest and not be lulled by the disingenuous actions of others. Yes, the country needs a national election, but because of callous and selfish approaches by others, we run the risk of becoming a minority opposition once again, if a cohesive unification does not evolve. It is selfish for the AFC to believe they can singularly win a national election, they just do not have the numbers. As a new and inexperienced political party without a strong voting-base, winning a national election is next-to-impossible. Such behavior is nothing more than a pipe-dream.
The selfish actions of the AFC borders on a disastrous risky behavior. Guyanese must reject the AFC’s perceived singular utterances. The prevalent comment that indo-Guyanese will leave the party(AFC) if an alliance with the APNU is formed, is baseless and untruthful, and must be rejected. Guyanese want change.
Communities and municipalities are hurting because Local General Elections have not taken place for almost two decades. The APNU has been the only political party pushing for LGE, and this was initiated long before the call for a NCM. We must be honest in our approach, not selfish. Guyanese must demand that both events must take place, and, at the same time. We must have “National and Local Government Elections,” all under the same processes.
