AFC must stop the risky behavior

October 20, 2014 | By | Filed Under Letters

Dear Editor,
I am absolutely proud of the measured way in which the leader of the APNU/PNCR coalition have carried himself. His leadership has rankled some inexperienced members who undoubtedly are driven by ulterior motives. What Guyanese must understand is that the APNU/PNCR is “THE” largest opposition party in Guyana, and would have won the 2011 election if not for the “alleged” rigging that took place. Many political savvy Guyanese have also realized that without the majority opposition, the PPP regime would have continued to ravish the country. Noteworthy, President Ramotar has enumerated that the majority opposition “has stymied” the PPP government, in parliament.

The APNU must take the interest of its constituents into full consideration whenever it decides to give support for the NCM. The interest of APNU should be country and party first. APNU must protect its own interest and not be lulled by the disingenuous actions of others. Yes, the country needs a national election, but because of callous and selfish approaches by others, we run the risk of becoming a minority opposition once again, if a cohesive unification does not evolve. It is selfish for the AFC to believe they can singularly win a national election, they just do not have the numbers. As a new and inexperienced political party without a strong voting-base, winning a national election is next-to-impossible. Such behavior is nothing more than a pipe-dream.

The selfish actions of the AFC borders on a disastrous risky behavior. Guyanese must reject the AFC’s perceived singular utterances. The prevalent comment that indo-Guyanese will leave the party(AFC) if an alliance with the APNU is formed, is baseless and untruthful, and must be rejected. Guyanese want change.

Communities and municipalities are hurting because Local General Elections have not taken place for almost two decades. The APNU has been the only political party pushing for LGE, and this was initiated long before the call for a NCM. We must be honest in our approach, not selfish. Guyanese must demand that both events must take place, and, at the same time. We must have “National and Local Government Elections,” all under the same processes.

As far as the East is from the West, so is the thinking of the indo component of the AFC. They cannot discard the PNC regime of the past. And while they were in the PPP camp, they preached about the ills of the terrible organization. Every so often, the PNC who speaks for APNU seems to be courted by the PPP. That fascination of APNU is perhaps trobling to the AFC leadership.

Howevrer, I do share some of the writers comments. The only possibility for a Combined Oppostion is for a neutral Presidential Candidate that all the opposition parties are comfortably with. With that said, I cannot see Moses or Granger willing to give up their aspirations of running the show. So the whole is held at ransome.

This fellow is an idiot or just another PPP stooge marketing their propaganda strategy to distort, and detract from their corrupt 2 decade rule.

The AFC has given us more democracy than possible in its existence. Had there not been the AFC there would be no place for lindeners to go if they need to put pressure on the PPP. They definitely do not have a place in the PPP where they were labeled slops, leaches and welfare junkies.

LGE is necessary but it is not to be presented as an alternative to the General elections. The administration is corruopt and it is their delay that caused LGE to be 2 decades late. The imperative is to get rid of them or weaken them to the point they must cooperate.

I have been saying time and time again that AFC cannot win a national election single handily. This is not only my believe, it's now become public knowledge that the AFC is a farce. Stormy jump on Joe Acarai to be a PPP stooge, where as Acarai didn't mention anything about the PPP, but defending APNU as the largest opposition and they should look out for their future and pay no mind to the AFC.
