Under duress the afc/pnc agents must now seek evasive maneuvers to counteract the new offensive by police against illicit activities.
As police continue spot raids… : Murder suspect, former convict among those arrested : …Brumell assures not a harassment tactic, only police work
Written by Leroy Smith Friday, 16 August 2013 20:26 The raids and searches which the police have been conducting of late have been reaping success, and at every operation there have been arrests and finds. This is according to Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell.
The Top Cop made the comments when invited by members of the media to speak on the issue. He said that based on intelligence, the force is able to conduct these operations and in most cases, illegal substances, weapons and even wanted persons have been netted.
Brumell told the media that there are several areas not only in Georgetown, but in other parts of the country, where such operations must be held if the force is to effectively keep an eye on what has been happening in some communities.
According to him, only recently one such operation was carried out in a community in Georgetown, when, as the police swooped down, someone dropped a gun and made good his escape through a crowd.
And so there is one less illegal gun on the streets he added.
Wednesday morning a similar operation was conducted in Albouystown, Alberttown, Sophia, Meadow Bank, Charlestown and West front Road.
During that raid, 23 men and five women were arrested and will remain in police custody pending investigations into possession of narcotics, armed robberies and break and enter, along with larceny. In addition a .25 Starter pistol was recovered in Alberttown.
The police also reported that Lawrence Rodrigues, 27, of Light Street Alberttown, who was sentenced to four years following a trial on charges of possession of firearm without being the holder of a licence and possession of ammunition without being licensed, was arrested. Also, a suspect whom the police had been looking for in connection with the murder of Quincy Sooklall was also among those arrested yesterday morning. He is still in police custody.
Quincy Sooklall is the man whose body was found in the Demerara River a few weeks ago.
