REPUBLIC DAY: Today is Republic Day in Guyana. On February 23, 1970 Guyana declared her complete independence from the former "Mother" country, Great Britain, She adopted new institutions, but the cornerstone has become sovereignty of our people.

It was under the Republic that we saw the almost total destruction of democracy that took an epic struggle to restore in 1992, w...hen we saw a "dawn of a new era". We have achieved much, and we saw changes to our country, but political greed and immaturity took control of the ruling elite, who has betrayed the trust of the people.

However, in 2011, Guyana was saved from repeating that past of descent into an arrogant and corrupt dictatorship, when the people created a balance in power. A new dispensation has emerged from the ballot boxes -- power to the people, to check the excesses of government and make it accountable.

In a way, the PPP/C had an opportunity to pull back from that brink of authoritarianism and corruption, and re-make itself in democracy. The new President, Donald Ramotar, has promised much, and he would be held to his words. I offer him my full support in charting a new course, and he will never find me holding back in any effort to crush corruption and weed out the parasitic gang. My party, the Alliance for Chance (AFC) has also made this commitment. There is nothing to fear from us when the right things are done to fix the many wrong, and to make government work for the people!

So, in a sense this Republic Day is seeing our re-birth, and renewal of democratic values. The new watchwords should be "cooperation", which aptly describes our state as "the Co-operative Republic of Guyana", and "consensus" amonst the three political parties. There is hope that Guyana can return to "clean and lean" governance, and that we can make a giant step in making our Guyana great! This is my wish and hope. Happy Mashramani to all. How the hell does Moses know he would have been elected by the rank and file of the PPP to be the presidential candidate? Ralph could have been the winner. Party's democracy may have been compromise in determining who should've led the PPP at the polls, but national democracy was never touched in any way.

Moses need speak more responsibly. I cannot accept all the garb he is been peddling recently.

You are morally bankrupt. I have reasons to believe that you lived on bribes in Guyana, a way of life that you learnt from your circle of parasites.

Why did you run away from the army? Why did you run away from Guyana? You are a fraud for a "Guyanese4eva".

Keep on running away! panman

Have a nice day! strongman

I am tempted to embrace Moses words here despite NO proof of anything he is alleging. However, because I hope and pray for the progress of the Guyanese People I would like to see Pres Ramotar work with him to better Guyana. I would say to Pres Ramoutar in the words of Ronald Reagan " TRUST BUT VERIFY".

The land was not donated to us. There were several interested buyers and since my dad shared Mr Thompson's passion for plants he choose my dad. That was 25 years ago.

For most of that time, the road around the airport and then into the farm was in a deplorable state, despite our pleadings to the Gov't to fix it, not just for us, but the growing communities in the area and for GMRSC. For the past couple of years we have had to drive through someone else's gated property to access the farm. We also suffered from theft, including losing the zinc from the farmhouse twice, and because of the remoteness, getting electricity there is very expensive. These, among other reasons, is why we sold the place.

In any event we bought the place legitimately and have every right to sell it. As usual, you do not deal with issues, but personalities, hence why I concur with the diagnosis that you are afflicted with soongu of the mind.

You are drunk. Utho bhai!!!

The people of East Bank Berbice are heartened that consequent to the AFC's intervention, the regional chairman announced that a new road will be built.

The AFC pledges to hold the chairman to his promise, and we will ensure accountability and transparency,” the party said.

Nehru Bhai......In case you forget.....

Did Jagdeo/Ramotar write Nagamootoo of their intentions to ‘bulldoze’ him from the PPP?
October 23, 2011 | By KNews | Filed Under Letters

Dear Editor,
***** When Moses Nagamootoo blasted the current clique running the PPP and what they have done to destroy the legacy of Cheddi Jagan, he was speaking the truth. We all know of the cold-hearted beast and immoral animal of misery, autocracy and wrongdoing the PPP has become under the watch of Ramotar and Jagdeo.

***** We all knew Nagamootoo was going to say exactly what he said. What I was most interested in was the response of the clique. True to form and true to their heinous, bitter, childish and overtly sensitive natures incapable of tact and unwilling to accept valid criticism, the clique responded as I expected.

***** The clique operating in the cesspool the PPP has become most absurdly claimed that Nagamootoo’s statements were to be viewed as a direct attack on the PPP General Secretary, Donald Ramotar. The clique in typical tactical ineptitude foolishly provided a name and a face to Nagamootoo’s comments.

***** The provided an accused to fit Nagamootoo’s charges. It essentially said Nagamootoo was speaking about Ramotar.

***** Now, those PPP supporters who believe Nagamootoo will now believe that Ramotar is the man who led the bulldozing.

***** To add fuel to the fire, the charges from Nagamootoo have a powerful ring of truth to them. As a former minister of information and a master propagandist himself, Moses Nagamootoo must be laughing at these amateurish mishaps from the Jagdeo/Ramotar propaganda zoo.

***** While the clique likely thought there was political leverage and mileage for Ramotar’s presidential campaign by claiming that Nagamootoo was directly condemning Ramotar, they failed to realise their folly of trying to pit Nagamootoo versus Ramotar.
Particularly when most if not all PPP supporters know intimately that Nagamootoo was talking the truth.
Nagamootoo versus Ramotar is a no-contest. It is a Mike Tyson-like 30-second knockout for Nagamootoo.

***** Ramotar never had, never has and will never have the stature and standing of a Nagamootoo to PPP supporters.

***** Anyone with half a brain reading Nagamootoo’s comments would know that this infamous clique is led by Jagdeo and Ramotar with Robert Persaud as footsoldier-in-chief.

***** But it is interesting that Nagamootoo’s scathing comments became an attack on Ramotar and not on Jagdeo when both are responsible for the demise of the PPP party.

***** It is as if Jagdeo made Ramotar the guy to take the fall on this one.
By removing himself from those directly attacked by Nagamootoo, Jagdeo’s image remains intact while Ramotar takes the fall and the blows that comes from going head to head with Moses Nagamootoo in the ring of PPP supporters’ opinion.

***** One has to seriously question whether Ramotar can be trusted with the presidency if he makes himself so accessible to doing the dirty work for others and if he is so easily hoodwinked.
Donald Ramotar is making Sam Hinds look like a man with his own political mind.

***** On the final issue of the AFC approaching Nagamootoo, how is this the Ramotar’s and Jagdeo’s business?
Any political party can approach a member of another political party.

Jagdeo & Ramotar.... The PPP approached former House of Israel and PNC member Joseph Hamilton and former PNC member Phillip Bynoe to join the PPP.

***** Donald Ramotar has no right writing Nagamootoo about his future political intentions.
Nagamootoo had already told the PPP for quite some time he is withdrawing.
It is brazen barefacedness to write Nagamootoo asking him to clarify.
Nagamootoo should garbage that letter.

***** If Nagamootoo responds to that letter, he will be subserving himself to a clique that destroyed his political career and essentially exiled him from a political party he has served for 40 years.
Nagamootoo’s political future is his own private business.
Nagamootoo’s leaving the PPP is a separate matter from his political future.

***** Did anyone write a letter to Jagdeo and Ramotar asking them about their political intentions when they corrupted, devastated and defiled the PPP of Cheddi Jagan?

***** Did the Jagdeo and Ramotar clique write Moses Nagamootoo to explain their reasons for bulldozing him and chasing him out of a party he has served for 40 years with hounds at his heels?
Did they provide him clarification of why they cast out a man who had served the party faithfully for four decades?

***** Did Jagdeo and Ramotar write PPP supporters telling them their reasons for suspending a mandatory general congress in 2011, depriving PPP members of their right to vote and to air their views?
