– General Secretary of the Alliance for Change (AFC), David Patterson submits the motion to Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs

[www.inewsguyana.com] – General Secretary of the Alliance for Change (AFC), David Patterson has hardened the AFC’s position in going forward with a vote of no – confidence against the Donald Ramotar led administration by submitting the document to Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs this afternoon (Thursday, August 7).

Speaking to iNews, Patterson said according to advice from Isaacs, the Speaker, Raphael Trotman will be duly notified after he [Isaacs] would have examined the document.

The House will then have to set a date for the motion to be debated and subsequently put to a vote.

However, Parliament goes into a two month recess starting tomorrow (Friday, August 8) and will resume on October 10. But the possibility of the motion being debated before such time remains possible.

The Speaker could decide on the motion’s importance and if he finds it fitting, could call a sitting, Patterson explained.

“The Clerk explained that it will be left up to the Speaker to decide if it’s a matter of national importance and it’s his prerogative to decide on the likelihood of a sitting before the end of recess in October,” he added.

He old iNews that the motion has no ‘whereas clauses’; just on resolution which states that the National Assembly has no confidence in the administration.

The main opposition – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) – has already signaled its support for the motion.

The APNU took the decision on Tuesday last following its shadow cabinet meeting. According to Guyana’s constitution, the President and the Cabinet must resign with immediate effect, if the motion is passed in the National Assembly.

Once this is done, the Government has three months to remain in office and prepare for elections. President Donald Ramotar has already expressed his readiness for elections if the motion is passed.
