A local political analyst has posited that the Alliance for Change’s public letter in which it signaled its intention to move a ‘no-confidence’ motion against the Donald Ramotar led administration is another ploy to force the hand of the APNU. This he said is reminiscent of the AFC’s actions which preceded the deadly Linden electricity protests in July of 2012.
In making his case the analyst pointed to the extensive media coverage and the whole spectacle created when the party took the unusual route of writing first instead bringing the no-confidence motion. This was designed to create a media frenzy as well as anxiety among APNU supporters. This he likened to the way in which AFC officials told Lindeners APNU had sold them out after the latter signed an agreement which would have seen a gradual equalization of the community’s electricity tariff along with the rest of the country.
The analyst said the media spectacle over the AFC’s letter was then followed by Christopher Ram’s criticism of David Granger’s leadership. Ram described Granger’s leadership as weak and said the APNU leader seems unwilling to confront the PPP/C government. This too was amplified in sections of the media aligned to the political opposition which also support the AFC’s no-confidence motion but which like the AFC, has recognized APNU’s disinclination to support it unless the AFC joins the union officially. The analyst warned that APNU should be mindful of not repeating July 2012 by being sucked into the AFC’s trap as it runs the risk of being blamed for any fallout from the no-confidence vote and subsequent elections just like it was blamed even though it was the AFC which orchestrated the deadly Linden electricity protest.
