They actually lost us thousands of jobs by allowing the Chinese to bring in their workers to work with tax concessions that could only be transferred to more burdens on the people.

Now Granger is proposing full employment at subsistence labor with village economic models and that is another ass backward proposal.

We need to liberate the creative essence of our people with developing small manufacturing. We can assemble marine engines, build multipurpose packing plants. Develop coffee and coco plantations, supply fish and meat. and rice krispies and coco puffs  to the Caribbean. There is a lot we can do and there is much for us to do but the belief system that we can has to become a part of our culture.

Guyana missed the boat on that given Jamaica and its coffee,  and now Caribbean islands like Trinidad, Grenada and St Lucia have now branded their cacao/chocolates, as being the best in the world and are marketing it as an organic product.

The rest is fine and I don't see why Guyanese products cannot be filling the super markets of the rest of CARICOM.

Major opportunities exist in coconuts.  Grace Kennedy uses coconut water, imported from the Phillipines, for its US market, and maybe even for that sold within CARICOM.   Guyana has ample land, and I believe that our coconut trees have been spared the ravages of many Caribbean islands, where the most productive varieties have been wiped out by disease.

This will NOT happen unless intra regional cargo is resolved though, as it is easier to ship stuff to the USA from Guyana, than it is to Antigua, or even Barbados.  A Caribbean cargo company will need to be created, with some sort of subsidy.  This was available in the early days of Carifta, but the normal infighting led to the collapse of the regional shipping company.

JOB, JOB, JOB!

Talk is cheap, unemployment was high yet you can hardly get people to do work.  Isn't that something.  Since the PNC took over, lots of law off, and worse to come.

The PNC provided "artificial" employment though Govt and bankrupt the economy.  The PNC could now expand the GDF to 20k and expand ministry staff and unemployment done.
