Govt defers next parliamentary  sitting due to “external commitments”

Democracy postponed

The Government of Guyana has requested that the sitting of the National Assembly scheduled for November 12, 2015, be rescheduled to a later date.

The request for the rescheduling was made by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo to the Speaker of the Parliament, Dr Barton Scotland.

The request for the rescheduling was on account of Guyana’s pending attendance at the Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA) which will be held in Saudi Arabia from November 9 to 13.

According to the Government, also during this period, several key Government functionaries, Members of Parliament and Clerk of the Assembly are likely to travel overseas to attend important conferences and training courses.

What kind of incompetence is this?  They purposely scheduled their trips on a date that Parliament was supposed to be in session.  I am telling you people, it is only a matter of time before Moses and friends walk into a no confidence vote.   I want them to do this when they have to vote on a bill.  Remember all the PPP need is two votes on their side.  These people are not even taking their job seriously.  They have no accountability to the people of Guyana.

Are you saying that Guyana scheduled the dates for this conference?

Unlike Spermgate, they are coming to attend important conferences and training.

No, I am saying that the business of running a country takes precedence over the attendance of a conference.  And why can't parliament be in session if two people are out of the country?  They have Junior Ministers, Ministers within and without, etc.  I am sure they find a suitable replacement.  I have never heard of any country in the world that postpones a parliamentary session for people to attend a conference.  They have no sense of priority or responsibility.

So why did the PPP postpone Parliament for nearly 2 years before the last election? Like you forget how Parliament was postponed for your nephew to come to Jamaica to get Sperm.

Excellent points.

The only way that can happen with the current constitution is if, by deliberate intentions, a few of the government members surprisingly abstain from voting.
