Agricola youth charged with robbery of Land Court Judge, husband
[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – two – year old Warren McKenzie of Agricola, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday, August 27, charged with robbery under arms.
The court heard that on July 09 at Montrose, East Coast Demerara being in company of three others and being armed with a gun, he robbed businessman, 50 – year – old Mohamed Chand and his wife, 43 – year – old Nichola Pierre, who is a Land Court Judge, of a personal safe containing US$7,000, gold and diamond Jewelry and a suitcase containing other valuables, among other items, which amounted to over $ 2.6M.
It is alleged that the accused on the same day ,at the same location, discharged a loaded firearm in the direction of Ron Peters with intent to maim, disfigure or disable.
He was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until September 08, when he is slated to appear at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
During his court appearance today, McKenzie, who had sustained a gunshot injury to his stomach, was seen on hospital stretcher being assisted by the Police; he claims that he is unable to stand, sit or move as a result of his injuries.
Pierre and her husband were badly beaten and had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a City hospital following the robbery. Chand lost an eye while his wife suffered a broken jaw.
Three others were also recently charged for the same offence.
