Guyana, IFAD clinch US$11.1m agri pact for hinterland.

Source

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on Tuesday signed a financial agreement for  a  hinterland project.

The Hinterland Environmentally Sustainable Agricultural Development Project referred to as the ‘Hinterland Project’ will operate in Region 9 as well as Mabaruma and Moruca in Region 1, a release from the Ministry of Finance said. It will initially only focus on the North Rupununi.

At the signing,  Jordan said, “The Guyanese economy has remained un-diversified. Guyana’s `bread and butter sector’, the agricultural sector, also remained unchanged with heavy reliance on sugar and rice (so) this operation is expected to boost the Government’s efforts in diversifying the economy as well as open up new markets and new trade agreements for Guyana.”

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan (seated left) signing on behalf of Guyana.

The agreement was signed  at IFAD headquarters in Rome by Jordan and Kanayo F. Nwanze, President of IFAD.

The total cost of the project is US$11.1 million of which IFAD is providing a US$7.9 million loan and a US$500,000 grant. Other co-financiers are: the Government of Guyana (US$2.4 million) and the beneficiaries themselves (US$300,000).

The release said that the Hinterland Project will: 1. Support communities and producer groups within communities, some 4500 households will benefit. 2.    Develop business plans and investment and income generating opportunities and increase market access:  Some 2000 households will be targeted. 3. Enable increased access to assets that build community resilience and create enabling productive environment such as water, energy and ICT and ensure that poor indigenous and non-indigenous rural households living in the Project area, whose livelihoods are threatened by economic and environmental risks, are direct beneficiaries. At least 15 per cent of these households will be female-headed households.

The lead agency for the implementation of the Hinterland Project will be the Ministry of Agriculture through its Agriculture’s Sector Development Unit (ASDU) and will be assisted by the Ministries of Indigenous Affairs, Natural  Resources & Energy.

The AFC/PNC Dog Shyte Administration will thief out 75 Percent of the money before it actually reaches the indigenous people.

Come 2020,Amerindian will cast their votes for the APNU/AFC-minus the Dog Shyte-the smell wouldn't bother them.

that's the game changer,I have noticed BJ running around the Indos neighborhood trying to solidify the PPP base.

Bhai

You are totally mistaken, the discontent towards this administration keeps growing. Unless they rig, they will be kicked out.

Many Afro Guyanese are speaking against these AFC/PNC Nincompoops.

They are doomed.

The PNC has an Afro base. You forget to mention that ?

Every party needs to solidify it's base.

Remember this, the last election was rigged with the PPP losing with less than ONE percent of votes.

Now, the AFC has been destroyed. That means more Indos votes for the PPP.

Add the mixed and Amerindians and youths who were thrown in the trash bin and ignored plus some GT black discontent votes and PPP are already ahead even with elections three years away. Like I predicted a Trump Victory, I also now predict a PPP majority as long as Granger does not rig.

Listen, never underestimate the silent discontent votes. It recently happened in America. The media in the USA got it dead wrong so did 95 Percent of GNI members.

Voters are now breaking away from the traditional party loyalty pattern. They now vote with their financial interest in mind. The PNC has turned the economy into Dog Shyte in two years, Guyanese are now experiencing financial hardships, excess taxes and stealing beyond comprehension.

Remember this also, the PNC oil deal does not give Guyana oil revenues until after 2026.

Think Bhaya.

When the coalition parties took over the seat of government two years ago they hurriedly cleaned up the streets and canals of Georgetown.  The work they did was quite impressive.  A couple of years later the City is descending back into  the sorry state that it was in. Streets are getting dirtier and drainage canals are clogged by the growth of weeds making the city vulnerable to flash floods. The City is doing a terrible job in making Georgetown a place attractive for business.

Wrong not applicable to Guyana,

Re-check the voting pattern.

Show the pictures Georgetown has reverted to the unattractive state it was prior to May 2015.

They are speaking out against APNU/AFC but they also still hate the PPP.

Don't get an orgasm.   I expect the PPP to increase its "black man a kill ahbe" hysteria as its only hope is to get Indians out to votes as non Indians stay home.

Let us rephrase this. The PNC consistently has won 41% of the votes when the black vote was 30%.  This when the mixed vote was under 15%.  The AFC also won 7% in 2006, mainly from the mixed votes. So add it up and it is clear that the mixed vote is almost as anti PPP as the black vote is. If 95% of the blacks hate the PPP then over 80% of the mixed voters also do.

Now go and scream "black man a kill ahbe straight hair" in the hopes that a high Indian/Amerindian vote more than offsets the diminished black/mixed turnout.

Let me also help you out here. Trotman says that he is mixed. Granger's kids are mixed.  These are the people who are the mixed vote. I doubt that ANY of these people EVER have voted PPP.
