Agro exports for the first half of 2012 has increased by about 20%.

And this can be attributed to Guyana’s food products being in demand.

The majority of the exports went to Canada and the United States.

Agriculture minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy says the increase is coming at a time when local farmers are re-doubling their efforts to increase  production.

Meanwhile, Guyanese coconuts and coconut value added products have enjoyed relatively stable overseas markets.

This is actually one of the driving factors for Guyana’s increased exports.

Over the years, the ministry of agriculture has been trying to resuscitate the coconut industry.

And the current high prices on the international market is expected to be a catalyst for farmers to boost their production
