Ahead of Silica City launch... Minister Ali highlights demand, potential in housing sector |
MINISTER with the portfolio, Mr. Irfaan Ali said, yesterday, that the housing sector is thriving, in high demand and, therefore, has potential. Ali said 80 percent of Guyanese occupy only 20 percent of the country’s land mass, leaving a lot still to be developed so that every Guyanese family can own a home. He said the 1,000 houses in Silica City will complement the new international airport being built and the thriving businesses along the way, including resorts and shops among other entities. Ali said the fast developing housing drive is very sustainable, has economic potential and protection against health hazards. He added that the existing houses and those that are to be erected definitely provide a sense of security for families and their offspring. Huge task Importantly, Ali pointed out, the ministry has a huge task ahead, since it would like to have the 1,000 houses completed in nine months. He remarked: “Some may say that it is not possible but it’s certainly achievable.” Ali observed that developing housing schemes does not only benefit families but pushes the country’s commercial, industrial and economic development. Alluding to the homes for young professionals, he noted that the price range and other details are still being discussed, so that young people can move from land ownership to home ownership. Ali said talks are also ongoing with hardware stores for persons to acquire building materials more affordably. |
