The first time Montgomery native Amanda Kaye put her survival skills to the test on Discovery Channel's "Naked and Afraid," she ended up tapping out only four days in.
That wasn't the case when it comes to Kaye's second attempt at surviving, naked and with very few supplies, in the wild during Sunday night's episode of the show.
Kaye, known as "AK" on the series, as raised studying, teaching, and living the way Native Americans did during the 1800s. The mother of three said she wanted to return to the show to put those skills to the test and get a bit of redemption.
"I knew I had the skills," said Kaye. "What other way to go out and test that than to go out with nothing? And that's including clothes because clothes are part of survival."
During her 21 days in the Guyana jungle, AK certainly showed off her abilities, including building a shelter on her own, making weapons and helping kill a large sting ray, despite facing a full-body rash and irritated eyes in the beginning of the journey.
"It's very unique," said Kaye. "You get to feel one with nature and you have to test your skills. It really puts yourself into perspective as far as what you can and can't do."
Once the experience was over, Kaye said there were two things on her mind: her family and food. The 32-year-old said she can't even remember what she ate because she consumed so much at once.
"The first thing I did when I got back was eat," said Kaye. "I can't even remember what I ate because I ate everything in sight. I just ate and ate."
