Allicock elated at Commonwealth games silver medal win

Guyanese Flyweight boxer Keevin Allicock said he is happy with his silver medal success at the recently concluded Commonwealth games which were held in The Bahamas.
Allicock, a member of the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym in Albouystown, copped the only medal for Guyana at the games. He defeated Kian Beatles of Ireland in the quarterfinal and beat Jordan Mathieu of Canada in the semis. He then lost in closely contested final to James Eithan of England.
Speaking at the a press conference held at the Guyana Olympic House yesterday, Allicock stated that winning a medal at such games is a wonderful achievement and he is looking forward to add to his collection of prizes in the future. He said he was pleased with the hospitality from the Guyanese there, adding that they motivated him a great lot. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and Coach Seibert Blake.
Blake stated that Allicock gave a good account of him self in the gold medal match and many were of the opinion that he won the bout, but the judges’ decision is final. He added that Allicock will commence preparation for the South American youth games and hopes to represent Guyana at the 2020 Olympics.
Among those that Blake singled out for special mention is Chris Samaroo of Charlestown who is a travel agent at Muneshwar’s. He informed that following his nomination to represent Guyana at the games, Samaroo offered much support to the youngster through out his preparation period which helped tremendously.
Guyana’s other boxing representative Christopher Moore of Essequibo who fought in the 60kg lost in the quarterfinal.
Joshua Buchanan competed in the Judo events and even though he didn’t make it to the finals, his performance landed Guyana four scholarships to The Bahamas.
Swimmers Kenita Mahaica and Daniel Scott (swimmers), Kenisha Phillips and Onasha Rogers (100m and 200m), Claudrice Mc Koy (1500m and 3000m), Tremaine Browen (long jump) and Danielle Melville (800m) were the only Guyana representatives at the games.
Chef De Mission Karen Pilgrim thanked the GOA for their support.
