Amazon Warriors looking to finish strong-Tanvir

Guyana Amazon Warriors fast bowler Sohail Tanvir said they will be looking to finish strong in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League which starts on Friday in Florida.
Speaking with reporters prior to a training session at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Tanvir said there is always room for improvement and he will try to improve with every game and hopefully help the team finish better than last year. “Last year we placed second, but the good thing is we have played good cricket throughout the history of the tournament which is very motivational for us. So we are really looking forward as a team for a repeat except for the final. Three out of four times we reached the final and lost,” he posited.
Sohail Pakistani team mate Babar Azam and Rashid Khan of Afghanistan are two of the new comers in the squad which will be without the Australian duo of Chris Lynn (injured) and Adam Zampa.
Sohail feels the team is a balanced one and expects both Azam and Khan to shine. He pointed out that Azam has done well in the Caribbean in all three formats with Pakistan and he knows the conditions. “His job may be is to play an anchor role maybe batting at three or four, but it all depends how the management wants him to play,” said Tanvir.
The fast bowler added that Azam is a talented cricketer who can rotate the strike and at the same time use the long handle. “We will definitely be relying on him, but having said that, this is his first time so we have to give him some time to adjust, but he has the ability to do well for the Warriors,” Tanvir noted.
Tanvir stated that the pitches in Caribbean are similar and different from Florida where the Warriors will play their first game, but they have the ability to adjust to any conditions. “The pitches and conditions in the Caribbean are similar, except for the St. Lucia track where fast bowlers get more help. Otherwise, the pitches are very slow and low and spinners get much more assistance. But I don’t expect Azam and Khan to face many difficulties in Florida. The pitch there is good for batting and bowlers do get some assistance as well.”
Both Babar and Khan pointed out that they know the conditions here, having done well with their respective national teams on recent tours.
Babar expressed gratitude to the Warriors for having him on board, adding that he is happy to be part of the squad and will give maximum efforts.
Leg spinner Khan, who is expected to one of the trump cards with the ball, said that it is a pleasure to be part for the team. He stated that getting the basics right is important.
“I will try to get the basics right and see what happens, it’s nice to have Azam on the team and the fans can expect some good cricket. I will try my best to play positive cricket for the team and according to the situation and hopefully this year will be a better year for the Warriors,” he stated.
Meanwhile, another new comer Guyanese Gajanand Singh pointed out that he is happy to be part of the team. Singh, who took a break from the game for personal reasons, added that the players are gelling nicely and are supportive to each other. He stated that he is eager to see how far his talent can take him.
