Kuwait's Ambassador to Brazil, non-resident Ambassador to Guyana, Yousef Ahmed Abdulsamad

 

 WASHINGTON, May 4 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to Brazil, non-resident Ambassador to Guyana, Yousef Ahmed Abdulsamad visited the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG), located in Georgetown.
 Abdulsamad was briefed on the affairs of Muslims in Guyana and the amount of aid provided by Kuwait Zakat House, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO).


 Ambassador Abdulsamad showed satisfaction over the aid provided by Kuwait, expressing admiration for the transparency and organization of CIOG, especially for the school that is attended by both Muslims and non-Muslims.
 The organization's officials expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the State of Kuwait and its governmental institutions and charities for the significant role played in providing aid to their fellow Muslims in Guyana as well as meeting their needs and following up on their affairs.


 The Kuwaiti charities' aid was provided in several forms such as funding, contributing to the building of mosques and schools, donating of school buses, sponsoring a number of orphans, as well as providing Iftar, sacrificial feast and salaries for some Guyanese envoys.


 The estimated number of Muslims in Guyana is 70,000, the equivalent of 10 percent of the total population as the CIOG was set up and registered with the authorities of Guayana in 1979. (end) ss.ba KUNA 041548 May 13NNNN
