Went missing on Marineland trip

Const. Derek Watson said the child was reported missing Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.

The boy and his father are U.S. citizens who live in Georgia, and were in Niagara Falls for a family visit to Marineland.

β€œThe biological mother and her brother separated from the group with the boy and that’s when he was last seen,” Watson told CBC News.

β€œAny time that we have a child taken without explanation, we have some concerns,” for their safety, said Watson.

The mother β€œis estranged from the boy and they [had] not seen each other in four or five years,” he said.

Police say both adults are believed to have fled the Niagara Falls, Ont., with Joseluis in a grey four-door sedan. They say the two have ties to Toronto as well as Hamilton, and may be in either city.

Police say a nine-year-old boy allegedly abducted by his mother and uncle has been found safe in Toronto. His mother and uncle are in police custody.

Police say the boy was found in a downtown Toronto hotel nearly a day after he went missing while on a family trip to Marineland.

Police say the boy’s uncle has been arrested in a separate location.

The announcement the boy was found came shortly after an Amber Alert in his name was cancelled.

Police believed the boy was in the company of his mother and uncle. Both adults were believed to have fled Niagara Falls with the boy.

Earlier, police spokesman Const. Derek Watson said investigators had obtained video of the mother withdrawing money from an ATM in Mississauga, west of Toronto, around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Watson said the boy and his father are U.S. citizens who live in Georgia and were in Niagara Falls for a family visit to Marineland.

β€œThroughout the course of the day, there’s a group of them, maybe eight or nine, and the mother (and) the uncle take the son and remove themselves from the group,” Watson told CP24.

He said it took about six hours for the family to notice the boy was gone.

β€œThis is about 3 p.m. It wasn’t until about nine that the family realized that they were gone. There was no sign of the son and the vehicle had left the parking lot.”

Watson said the father and biological mother are estranged and it’s believed the boy had not seen his mother for quite some time.

β€œThere is no relationship between the child and the mother,” said Watson.

β€œI don’t think they’ve had any contact for over four years. Through our investigation, there’s no doubt this was planned.”
