The United States of America may be a country, but it more of an "Idea". It is a place that, if it didn't exist, the world would have created it.

It is constantly evolving with Amendments to one of the greatest piece of literature ever concocted - the US Constitution (sorry Shakespeare and the Holy Books). Remember that Africans were defined as 3/5th of a human because they were slaves.

It is a place where the boundaries of human thinking constantly gets expanded, where opportunities can be created. Yes, American history was fashioned by force - driving the Lakota Indians to get gold and killing their Buffaloes to drive them to the Reservation; Slavery; the Barons who controlled political institutions and kept minorities in a vicious poverty cycle of under-developed educational opportunities, investment opportunities, housing opportunities, segregation, etc.

It is not a melting pot, but more of territorial segregation when it comes to the different migrant groups who each carved their own space. That's why immigrants are better assimilated here than in Europe.
