Amid speculations, another PPP leader leaves for Dubai
It has been reported that another PPP leader, Owais Muzzafar, also went abroad last week to receive his stepbrother’s body. It was not ascertained whether he would come back to the country along with the body.
Sources said these names were put in the ECL following the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The NAB, Sindh Rangers and the Federal Investigating Agency have jointly conducted several actions against allegations of corruption in recent days. In what appears to be a change in methodology, these actions are being conducted on the basis of proof-first.
According to sources, some of the names placed in the ECL were also mentioned in a list presented by Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar during the June 4 meeting of the Sindh apex committee, chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.
Earlier, the Sindh Rangers claimed to have estimated more than Rs 230 billion being generated annually from Karachiites through extortion, smuggling of Iranian diesel, water supply and land-grabbing, mainly patronised by ‘a major political party’ and that part of a huge amount was also being used for ‘terror-funding’, a decade-old gang warfare in Lyari and criminal activities across the city.
According to reports, names of Sharjeel Memon, Manzoor Wassan, Jam Khan Shoro, Mukesh Chawla, Mumtaz Jakhrani, Gayan Chand, Pir Mazhar, Ali Mardan Shah, Nadir Magsi, Agha Siraj Durani, Ghanwar Khan Laghari, Saqib Soomro, Raheem Soomro, Suhail Rajput, Shazar Shamoon, Qazi Shahid Parvez, Khair Muhammad Kalwar, Aamir Isran, Tashfien K Niaz, Raheem Soomro, Zulfiqar Shalwani, Iftikhar Shalwani, Hashim Raza Zaidi, Ghulam Ali Pasha, Subhan Memon and Fazul Pechoho are in the ECL.
