Berbice No. 65 CPG reaches out to two families who lost loved ones
MEMBERS of the No. 65 Community Policing Group (CPG) in Berbice recently made two cash donations to two families who lost loved ones.
CPG Liaison Officer Radica Ramanandan told this publication that the Chairman Abdool Nasir, Public Relations Officer Latchman Narine and other executive members raised funds through several activities and donated cash to the relatives of the Basdeo family, who were evicted from their home several weeks ago, after their mother had passed away.
The money was used to sponsor a one-night wake held for the deceased, she explained.
Ramanandan said also that following the death of 70-year-old Kellawan (only name given) on May 30, 2014 from No. 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, they sponsored a one-night wake for him by providing the refreshments from $15,000 they acquired through fund-raising activities held by the CPG members.
She told the Guyana Chronicle that they must, however, thank the Ministry of Home Affairs for inspiring them to do more community- based work to foster good and continuing relations with the community.
Ramanandan noted that their duties as a CPG are not only to patrol the area and ensure that it is crime-free but also to assist the community when needed and therefore they work hand-in-hand to assist members of the public.
Meanwhile, the No. 65 CPG has been active in several programmes, garnering funds from the group to assist the less fortunate as their aim is to reach out to as many persons as possible.
